Marvel’s Wolverine is back in the spotlight ahead of the upcoming Sony State of Play, which takes place on June 2. Insomniac Games is expected to show new gameplay footage of its next major PlayStation 5 exclusive. With the game’s release date of September 15, 2026 approaching, fans have been waiting for fresh details and combat system information.
A retail leak has only heightened interest. User PyroMid/GHSTE shared an image of a promotional banner for Marvel’s Wolverine in a store, along with price information reportedly obtained from a GameStop employee. According to the leak, the standard edition will cost $69.99. It remains unclear whether Sony plans a Deluxe version, a collector’s edition, or special console bundles.
Physical pre-orders could start soon after the State of Play. In similar cases, Sony has sometimes opened orders immediately after a presentation, but has also waited a week or longer. The leak source noted that if stores are already receiving promotional materials, the wait is usually short.
The first gameplay of Marvel’s Wolverine was shown at a State of Play in 2025, but little new footage has surfaced since. Insomniac previously told fans it wanted to show more of the actual game before opening pre-orders. That moment now appears to be arriving: Sony has already promised a look at Logan’s brutal, aggressive combat and new project details in a PlayStation Blog post.
A PC version likely won’t arrive anytime soon. Sony typically releases its story-driven PlayStation exclusives on PC months or years after the console launch. Moreover, Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier reports that PlayStation Studios may be rethinking its cross-platform strategy, making a quick PC announcement even less probable.
If the leak proves accurate, Marvel’s Wolverine will be one of PlayStation’s biggest releases in the second half of 2026. For Insomniac, this is a pivotal project following the Spider-Man games: the studio must deliver not just a familiar Marvel hero, but a darker, more brutal action game that can stand out in the superhero genre.
