Apple is gearing up to launch updated versions of the Apple TV and HomePod mini this fall, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his latest Power On newsletter. Both devices have been due for an upgrade for some time, and the delay reportedly stems from Apple’s initial plan to release them alongside the new Siri and Apple Intelligence features.
The biggest change is expected to be the hardware platform. While Gurman didn’t name specific chips, the new Apple TV is widely anticipated to move from the A15 to the A17 Pro. That upgrade could be crucial for running local AI models, allowing the set-top box to handle some intelligent tasks without constantly tapping the cloud.
The HomePod mini is rumored to get a new chip as well—replacing the S5 with an S9. But its capabilities probably won’t be enough for full local Apple Intelligence, so the speaker’s smart functions tied to the revamped Siri might be processed partially or entirely in the cloud.
Gurman also hinted at a possible Siri Remote update. Details are scarce, but Apple may limit changes to the internals, leaving the remote’s appearance unchanged. The Apple TV itself is said to keep its familiar design and continue the industrial language the company has been refining in this category since 2010.
If the forecast holds, this fall’s update will be more than just a technical refresh for Apple’s home devices. It looks to be part of a broader ecosystem shift centered on Siri and Apple Intelligence. The company seems determined to make its voice assistant more useful not only on the iPhone but also in the living room, via the TV box and compact smart speaker.
