Apple Watch hypertension notifications now available in 150+ countries, including Canada

Apple is steadily broadening its health toolkit, and now hypertension notifications are reaching even more people. With the latest update, the feature rolled out in Canada, pushing the total number of supported countries past 150.

Owners of Apple Watch Series 9, Ultra 2, and newer models can switch on high blood pressure alerts right from the Health app on iPhone. The only exception is Apple Watch SE, which does not support the feature.

This alert system could prove genuinely important. Hypertension is among the most common conditions worldwide—Apple cites more than 1.3 billion adults living with it. Because it often shows no obvious symptoms, an early heads-up can prompt timely attention. In a world where routine checkups are easy to postpone, a subtle wrist nudge might be exactly what gets someone to act.

Apple Watch analyzes heart‑rate data, tracking how blood vessels respond over a 30‑day period. If it detects consistent signs that point to elevated pressure, it sends a notification urging the user to take a closer look at their health.

To enable the feature, go to the Apple Watch app — My Watch — Performance Monitoring — Hypertension Notifications. It’s available to users aged 22 and older who have not been previously diagnosed with hypertension.

Apple notes that Apple Watch is not a medical device and does not measure blood pressure directly. Its goal is to flag potential issues, not to deliver a diagnosis.

The company continues to lean into technologies that help people look after themselves, while underscoring that only a physician can make a definitive call—a balance of ambition and caution that feels intentional.
