Apple apparently is not ready to drop the idea of an ultra-thin iPhone after its first experiment. According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, the company is considering a spring 2027 launch for the iPhone Air 2. The future model is said to bring a second rear camera, longer battery life and a version of the A20 Pro chip.
After the first iPhone Air arrived, many observers doubted that the model would become a full long-term lineup. The phone was often seen more as an intermediate step toward a future foldable iPhone, while Apple, as usual, did not disclose sales figures for individual models.
The new information suggests that the ultra-thin form factor could still become a permanent part of the company’s range. One of the biggest compromises of the first iPhone Air was its single rear camera, so a second module could make the device noticeably more attractive to buyers.
The rumors also point to another shift in Apple’s release calendar. While the company used to introduce almost all new iPhones in the fall, it is now gradually splitting its announcements. Flagship models remain in the September window, while more affordable devices, including the expected iPhone 17e, may move to spring.
It is possible that, after winding down the iPhone mini and iPhone SE series, the company has decided to approach compactness from another angle. Instead of a small body, the bet is on an extremely thin and light device that stands apart from regular models not by screen size, but by how it feels in the hand.
