Nothing keeps building interest around its new budget smartphone, which is expected to launch as the Nothing Phone (4b). In a fresh teaser, the company once again showed its signature transparent design, but the real talking point was not the look of the device so much as its unexpectedly simple setup.

Based on the published materials, the Nothing Phone (4b) may come with just one rear camera. For the brand’s smartphones, that would be a noticeable break from the usual formula: previous Nothing models have used at least two sensors. The clip also appears to show the “4b” marking, indirectly backing up the name of the upcoming model.

The arrival of such an affordable phone under the main brand looks especially interesting against Nothing’s broader strategy. Until now, the company had pushed the budget segment through its CMF sub-brand, but the situation is shifting: the new CMF phone expected this year as a follow-up after the CMF Phone 2 Pro has been cancelled. Nothing has not yet officially explained how it plans to separate the two brands from here.

Another key question is the price. The Nothing Phone (3a) Lite previously reached the market at around $250, but its price later rose noticeably amid a memory shortage. A similar issue has affected the CMF line, where keeping prices low has become much harder.

Company co-founder Carl Pei has previously said that memory has become the most expensive component in modern smartphones, with costs rising sharply in recent months. Against that backdrop, manufacturers are being forced to look for tougher ways to save money while keeping devices accessible.

Nothing has not revealed the technical specifications of the Nothing Phone (4b) yet, but a single camera already points to a serious simplification of the hardware platform. It looks like the company may have to make other compromises to keep the price down — the question is how visible they will be.
