Android 17 brought Pixel phones new features such as app bubbles and built-in reactions during screen recording, but it also arrived with serious glitches. After complaints about boot loops, touchscreen problems, 5G, eSIM, Wi-Fi and disappearing widgets, users have started reporting another unpleasant bug: after the update, some Pixel phones silently ignore incoming calls.

This is not about the owner simply missing a ring. According to complaints on Reddit and Google Issue Tracker, the phone does not let the call through, so the user only finds out about it afterward or does not receive the notification in time. For now, there are not many such reports, so the issue does not look widespread. Still, the bug affects one of the phone’s core functions. One user said they missed several calls from recruiters while looking for a job because of it.

Google has not officially acknowledged this specific problem yet and has not given a timeline for a fix. One Pixel 6a owner suggested that the bug could be linked to Scam Detection and Call Screen in Google’s Phone app. The temporary workaround is to turn these options off and restart the phone. That helped some users, while others say calls still keep disappearing.

The calling issue has become part of a broader wave of Android 17 complaints. Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL owners reported touchscreen failures, while some users ran into 5G speeds dropping to LTE, disappearing eSIM profiles, Wi-Fi auto-connect problems, a broken search bar on the home screen and widgets vanishing after the first restart. Google is already aware of most of these complaints and is reportedly working on fixes.

If a Pixel has not yet been updated to Android 17, waiting for the next patch looks like the safer move, especially if the device is used as a primary work phone. For users who have already updated, the only options for now are temporary workarounds: checking spam protection and Call Screen settings, restarting the device, and watching Issue Tracker and updates to Google’s Phone app. The original report did not mention prices.
