Google has released Android 17 QPR1 Beta 6 roughly a week after the previous test build. The new version carries build number CP31.260618.005 and marks an important milestone for developers: Android 17 QPR1 has reached Platform Stability, meaning the API surface is now locked and the new interfaces can already be used in apps with more confidence.
The update is again available for a wide range of Pixel devices. The list includes Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a, Pixel 7, 7 Pro, 7a, Pixel 8, 8 Pro, 8a, Pixel 9, 9 Pro, 9a, Pixel 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL, 10 Pro Fold, 10a, as well as devices in the Pixel Tablet line. As with earlier builds, Google has packed the release with bug fixes and a few small interface improvements.
Beta 6 fixes issues with selecting multiple spell-check languages, volume buttons behaving incorrectly in the Clock app, and visual artifacts when quickly scrolling through the media carousel in Quick Settings. Google also fixed app crashes caused by a WindowManagerGlobal bug and an issue where the system showed the default Wi-Fi hotspot name instead of the saved custom SSID.
There are some visible interface changes too. According to Mishaal Rahman, the home screen context menu has a new design: gaps between items are gone, and Wallpaper & Style now sits at the top. Health Connect has also gained tracking and storage for new metrics, including distance and calories.
The behavior of elements in desktop windowing mode has changed as well. Taskbar icons now sit at the bottom left instead of the center, and picture-in-picture windows can move freely around the workspace. Previously, a PiP window would automatically snap to the left or right side of the screen.
