Samsung, according to TheElec, is preparing to make Privacy Display a standard feature of the Galaxy S27 flagship lineup. While the technology was available only in the Ultra version of the Galaxy S26 series, in 2027 it may come to four models at once: Galaxy S27, S27 Plus, S27 Pro and S27 Ultra.
Privacy Display first appeared in the Galaxy S26 Ultra and uses Flex Magic Pixel technology. It controls the direction of light in the OLED panel so that the owner sees the image normally, while from the side the screen becomes much harder to read. The mode is meant to protect against wandering eyes on public transport, in cafés, offices and other places where a smartphone screen can easily be seen from an angle.
According to TheElec, Flex Magic Pixel uses separate pixels for the regular mode and the privacy mode. In Privacy Mode, these pixels receive an additional black matrix layer on top of the Color Filter on Encapsulation structure, helping to limit horizontal viewing angles. The exact construction may differ depending on the panel supplier.
Bringing the feature to the whole flagship lineup suggests that Samsung no longer sees it as an Ultra-only experiment. The company seems to want to turn the private screen into a visible part of the premium Galaxy experience and one more argument against rivals. According to industry sources, Huawei, Xiaomi, OPPO and vivo are already working on similar solutions.
Interest in such displays is clearly growing. Sigmaintell forecasts that global shipments of smartphones with Privacy Mode could rise from 1 million units in 2025 to 21 million in 2026, and reach 29 million in 2027. If manufacturers manage to deal with lower brightness, resolution and power efficiency, the technology could also make its way to foldable smartphones.
