Bethesda Softworks and id Software have revealed the first major story expansion for DOOM: The Dark Ages. The DLC, titled Revelations, will launch on July 7, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Players are being promised a single-player campaign of about 10–12 hours: roughly 60% of that time will go to the main story, while the rest will focus on endgame content. According to the developers, the expansion should be larger than both DOOM Eternal DLCs combined.
The release is planned for all digital stores at the same time. On PC, the expansion will be available through Steam, while console players will find it on PlayStation Store and Xbox Store. Preloading will let players install the main files in advance, and a launch patch will add optimizations for especially dense fights. Support for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution on PS5 Pro is also listed, with the goal of making the image sharper.
The main new feature in Revelations is Chain Spear, a chained spear that noticeably changes the usual combat rhythm. It can be used like a grappling hook: the weapon pulls the Doom Slayer toward enemies or helps him move quickly through the environment. The spear will have its own upgrade branch, with collected resources unlocking new effects, traits and combat options. In tougher fights, players will have to switch quickly between the new weapon and the mechanics of the base game.
The expansion includes six levels connected through the Purgatory hub. Its structure will move closer to a metroidvania: players will return to previously visited areas, solve puzzles, hunt for secrets and open new routes after upgrading abilities. Revelations will also add modernized versions of classic DOOM 2 maps, built directly into the engine as Slayer memories. Among the new threats are mechanical riders called Buzzsaws and a reworked Archvile, which now summons fresh waves of demons instead of resurrecting fallen enemies.
Revelations will cost $19.99 separately for owners of the standard edition. Upgrading to the Premium Edition will cost $34.99, while Premium Edition and Collector’s Bundle owners will get access on launch day without an extra purchase. Alongside the paid DLC, a free Ripatorium 3.0 update will arrive, expanding customization tools, adding localized presets and changing the code system for the arena mode. After completing the campaign, players will unlock three exclusive Ripatorium maps, new demon types and pre-upgraded weapon loadouts.
