Google has started gradually rolling out a small Play Store interface update. The biggest changes affect the Games and Apps sections, while the Books tab appears to be largely unchanged. The new design has reached some users, but the rollout is not yet widespread.
In the updated version, the top tabs in the Games and Apps sections sit inside rounded containers. Games keeps Top charts, Kids, Premium and Categories, while Apps offers a similar set without Premium. The For you tab has disappeared from the top bar, although the personalized feed itself remains.
The former For you content now opens by default. Tapping Games or Apps in the bottom navigation takes users straight to recommendations, including the Suggested for you section. Top charts and Categories open as separate pages, with a back arrow at the top to return to the main feed.
Another change concerns Google Play Points. The points balance previously appeared in a blue pill-shaped button near the top of the interface, but that element may be removed in the new version. The current balance is expected to remain available from the You tab on the right side of the bottom bar. Play Points is Google Play’s free loyalty program: users earn points on purchases and can redeem them for Google Play credit, discount coupons and other rewards.
The update is rolling out gradually and may be partly enabled on Google’s servers. As a result, the redesigned interface may not appear immediately even with the latest Play Store version installed.
