Xiaomi has started testing HyperOS 3.3 — an interim update that moves the company's first smartphones to Android 17. Traces of new builds have already appeared for Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra, but this is still preliminary software rather than a confirmed public rollout.
Despite the Android version change, HyperOS 3.3 is unlikely to be a major release packed with visible features. It is better viewed as a technical update that transfers compatible devices to a new Android base and helps Xiaomi prepare its software platform for the next stage.
The main visual changes, new AI features and system improvements are expected with HyperOS 4. Preliminary reports suggest Xiaomi could unveil it in August and later begin a gradual rollout to supported models. The company has not published an official schedule.
Moving to Android 17 will still require substantial work on system components. During testing, Xiaomi will need to check the kernel, power consumption, heat management, image processing and overall interface responsiveness.
For now, smartphone owners will have to wait for an official announcement. Once distribution begins, the update should be available through Settings, About phone and the HyperOS logo. As usual, updates will arrive in batches and may reach different regions at different times.
