Chinese enthusiast NexFrame built a fully passive cooling system for an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060. He removed the stock cooler and mounted a massive finned heatsink made of aluminium weighing about 2.5 kg, relying on natural air convection to carry heat away.
The structure is several times larger than the graphics card itself. It uses a copper base with heat pipes to transfer heat from the GPU to the aluminium fins. Wide gaps between the plates help hot air rise freely without any fans.
During a gaming test, the GPU temperature reportedly reached about 58 °C, while the hotspot climbed to 71 °C. No fans were used. However, the test was performed on an open bench, so temperatures could be noticeably higher inside a closed case.
The monitoring software showed graphics card power consumption at 198 W, but that reading was most likely incorrect. The official power rating of the GeForce RTX 4060 is 115 W, so a figure close to 200 W looks highly unusual and needs separate verification.
The rest of the computer was also cooled without fans. For the six-core Intel processor, the modder used a passive Noctua NH-P1 cooler, while the chip consumed roughly 35 to 50 W during the test. The project shows that a silent gaming PC is possible, but it requires enormous heatsinks, an open layout and close temperature monitoring.
