Apple is reportedly testing a larger display measuring about 6.96 inches for one of its anniversary iPhones expected in 2027. If the panel reaches production, the company will likely market it as a 7-inch display. The prototype was mentioned by Chinese leaker Digital Chat Station.
The tested screen is said to use the same aspect ratio as the current iPhone 17 Pro Max. It is still unclear whether the prototype will enter mass production or appear in the model informally referred to as the iPhone 20 Pro Max. Earlier reports claimed that Apple had accelerated development of two anniversary iPhone variants. Rumored features include an almost bezel-free display, glass curved on all sides, and a more seamless body without obvious front-facing cutouts.
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, expected in 2026, are reportedly set to retain 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays. A move to 6.96 inches would therefore be a modest increase over the current larger model. The more noticeable difference could come from slimmer bezels.
Apple last made a major increase to its flagship iPhone screen sizes with the iPhone 16 Pro lineup introduced in 2024. The smaller model grew from 6.1 to 6.3 inches, while the Pro Max moved from 6.7 to 6.9 inches. Apple has not officially confirmed the anniversary iPhone’s specifications, so its size, name, and design could still change.
