Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold8 with completely redesigned body proportions. The phone is shorter and wider than earlier models, so when folded it feels much closer to a conventional smartphone. Opened up, it becomes a compact tablet suited to video, reading and multitasking. The model is also being viewed as a potential rival to Apple’s first foldable iPhone.
The outer display measures 5.5 inches with an aspect ratio of roughly 10:16, while the inner foldable screen is 7.6 inches with proportions close to 4:3. Both Dynamic AMOLED 2X panels support an adaptive 1–120 Hz refresh rate as well as HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG. Peak brightness reaches 3,000 nits, and the anti-reflective coating on the inner panel should improve outdoor visibility.
Samsung uses its Flex Titanium display structure to make the crease less noticeable and improve durability. At 201 g, the Galaxy Z Fold8 is the lightest book-style foldable in the company’s lineup. It measures 9.7 mm when closed and 4.5 mm when unfolded, carries an IP48 rating and does not support the S Pen.
The phone is powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, paired with 12 or 16 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of storage. Its rear camera system has two 50 MP sensors: a stabilized wide camera and an ultrawide. Each display also has its own 10 MP selfie camera. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, UWB and Samsung DeX, along with 45 W wired and 20 W wireless charging.
Galaxy Z Fold8 runs One UI 9 and is promised seven years of Android and security updates. Galaxy AI tools and Gemini-based automation can handle some actions automatically. Pricing starts at $1,899 in the US and €1,999 in Europe. Cream, Graphite and Lavender finishes are available, while Pistachio is exclusive to Samsung’s online store.
