Shanling has introduced the EC Zero T Max portable CD player, based on the EC Zero T. The new model keeps the hybrid audio design with two vacuum tubes but adds a more powerful amplifier for full-size headphones. The device is already listed in the company’s catalog and is being shipped to distributors.
The player uses a 24-bit R2R resistor DAC. Through the 4.4 mm balanced output, the amplifier delivers up to 1,300 mW into 32 ohms. A 3.5 mm output is also available, providing up to 361 mW into 32 ohms.
The EC Zero T Max can work not only as a CD player but also as a USB DAC, Bluetooth transmitter and disc-ripping device. Music from a CD can be saved to a USB drive as uncompressed WAV files. Wireless connectivity uses Bluetooth 5.3 with aptX Adaptive, aptX and SBC support, matching the capabilities of the standard EC Zero T.
The built-in 5,500 mAh battery provides up to 7.5 hours through the balanced output and up to eight hours through the 3.5 mm jack. When sending audio to wireless headphones, Shanling claims up to 20 hours of operation. A magnetic disc clamp and vibration-protection system allow the player to work in different positions, although its 669 g weight limits portability.
The Shanling EC Zero T Max has a metal body with a tempered-glass cover. It measures 158 × 150 × 28 mm and is controlled with physical buttons and a volume slider. The recommended price is $629.
