The first details about the efficiency of the unannounced Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 have appeared online. According to a source familiar with tests of an engineering smartphone sample, the new chip already exists and is being tested inside a future device.
Under heavy load, including demanding mobile games such as Genshin Impact, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 reportedly uses around 10% less power than Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The gap could be even wider in lighter workloads, although the source did not provide exact figures.
One possible reason is said to be the move to a 2 nm process. The newer manufacturing technology could improve efficiency, but final results will also depend on the architecture, clock speeds and tuning of each smartphone.
A more efficient processor could improve the battery life and sustained performance of future Android flagships. With similar battery capacities, devices may run longer under heavy load while maintaining high performance without excessive heat.
Qualcomm has not revealed the official Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 specifications, so the reported results should be treated as preliminary. Final clock speeds, CPU configuration and real-world performance gains in retail smartphones remain unknown.
