Sony Interactive Entertainment and Santa Monica Studio have announced the release date for God of War Laufey. The game will launch on February 16, 2027 and is currently confirmed only for PlayStation 5. The news was revealed during a dedicated panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026.
The new installment will star Laufey, also known as Faye, — Kratos' wife and Atreus' mother. After her death, she unexpectedly awakens in the gods' afterlife realm of Everywhen and learns that her plans to protect her family are under threat. Sony describes Laufey as the next mainline game in the series, rather than a spin-off.
During the panel, Santa Monica Studio creative director Cory Barlog also said that the team is already working on the next game starring Kratos. Its story will be directly connected to the events of God of War Laufey. Faye's journey is intended not only to continue the previous games, but also to lay the groundwork for the series' future.
One of the new characters is a talking cosmic cube named Phranque, voiced by Jack Quaid. The discussion also featured Deborah Ann Woll, who plays Laufey, Christopher Judge, returning as the voice of Kratos, and other cast members. The developers have not yet revealed how large Kratos' role will be in Laufey itself.
Less than seven months remain until release. The official PlayStation page confirms a PS5 launch, although some regional versions of the site may still show the date as unannounced.
