Apple pulls Clips from the App Store and ends development

Apple has officially ended support for Clips, its in-house video editor that let users quickly assemble short videos with music, text, effects, and filters. Released in 2017, it was pitched as a lightweight way to make social-style content.

Over the years, Clips picked up augmented reality features, fresh filters, animations, and the ability to add dynamic titles. But updates had largely dried up in recent years, and now Apple is closing the chapter for good.

As reported by The Verge, Clips has been removed from the App Store and is no longer available for new downloads. Apple’s support page says development ceased as of October 10, 2025.

Those who already have Clips installed can keep using it on devices running iOS and iPadOS. The company cautions that future system changes could break the app. To avoid losing work, users are advised to save their videos to the Photos library. The support page also offers detailed instructions on exporting clips, both with effects applied and without them.

In the end, Clips bows out as one of Apple’s more inventive yet overlooked apps—an idea that anticipated the short-video era but couldn’t keep its footing in a landscape that changes by the minute. The long lull in updates had already hinted at this quiet goodbye.
