Google has begun rolling out Immersive Navigation in Google Maps much more widely. Introduced in March 2026 as one of the biggest changes to in-car navigation in years, the new interface is now appearing for more users of the stable app, although the rollout is not yet widespread.
Immersive Navigation replaces the familiar flat map with a more detailed 3D view of the route. Buildings, terrain, overpasses, traffic lanes, traffic lights and road signs stand out more clearly, while complex exits and turns are easier to understand at a glance.
On Android, the new interface can be identified most easily by the Gemini icon, which replaces the Google Assistant icon in the upper-right corner. Availability depends on the region, device and individual account, so even owners of identical phones may receive the update at different times.
At the same time, Google Maps has started showing the vehicle's current speed more broadly on Android Auto. The speedometer appears next to the speed-limit sign and is already reaching some users who are not enrolled in Google Maps or Android Auto testing programs.
Both features appear to be enabled server-side, so installing the latest app version does not guarantee immediate access. Google has not yet announced when the global rollout will be completed or clarified whether Immersive Navigation and the Android Auto speedometer are being launched together.
