Google has released Android 17 QPR1 Beta 8, two weeks after the previous test build. The update is available for compatible devices starting with the Pixel 6 series, which is no longer supported in the QPR2 Beta 1 branch. One of the main fixes addresses an audio buffer management bug that could cause sudden loud interference, distortion and static noise during media playback and notification sounds.
The update also fixes a Pixel Tablet Speaker Dock issue. The dock could repeatedly go offline or fail to reconnect after the tablet was placed on it. Google has also corrected an NFC regression that prevented some tags from being read or opening links. Another fix restores fingerprint authentication when users try to unlock the device.
Android 17 QPR1 Beta 8 mainly focuses on improving stability and does not introduce any notable new features. The build offers an early look at changes expected in the September feature update. Owners of compatible Pixel devices can install it after enrolling their phone or tablet in the Android Beta for Pixel program.
