Nubia Z80 Ultra launches October 22 in China with revamped cameras, Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and a 144 Hz OLED

Nubia has officially confirmed the launch date of its new flagship, the Z80 Ultra: the smartphone will be unveiled in China on October 22. Alongside the date, the brand revealed the device’s design—a successor to last year’s Z70 Ultra with a reworked camera array.

The primary sensors now occupy the upper section of the camera island: the top row houses the main camera and an ultrawide, while below sits a periscope lens with hybrid zoom support. The Z80 Ultra will be offered in Light White and Phantom Black, plus a collector’s Starry Sky edition inspired by Van Gogh.

The flagship brings an updated 18 mm ultrawide module with a 1/1.55-inch sensor, a seven-element lens, and an IR filter. The 35 mm main camera is built on the Omnivision 990 sensor in a 1/1.3-inch format. The third module is expected to keep the characteristics of previous models and deliver 50x hybrid zoom with optical stabilization. Nubia has already shared sample images spanning focal lengths from 18 to 140 mm.

In terms of core hardware, the Nubia Z80 Ultra is slated to feature the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a 144 Hz OLED display without cutouts thanks to an under-display front camera, and a 7,100 mAh battery with 90 W wired charging. Taken together, the package positions the upcoming flagship as one of the more intriguing Android phones heading into late 2025.
