Apple has released the third beta of macOS 26.1, and developers digging through the system code spotted an intriguing hint: references to a Pro Display XDR Camera and a Pro Display XDR Desk View Camera. Taken together, they point to a second-generation Pro Display XDR with a built-in Center Stage camera.
Center Stage automatically keeps the user centered during video calls, even when they move, while Desk View can show both the person and an overhead look at the desktop at the same time. If Apple follows through, the company would be bringing its pro monitor in line with the features already familiar to many Mac users.
The current Pro Display XDR, introduced back in 2019, offers no camera or speakers despite a starting price of $4,999, with the stand sold separately for $999. It features a 32-inch 6K panel rated up to 1,600 nits and connects over Thunderbolt 3. Against that backdrop, a built-in camera would be a practical step—especially since Apple added Center Stage to the more affordable Studio Display in 2022. The new code references suggest the groundwork for that upgrade is already being laid.
