Samsung has officially set the launch date for its first mixed reality headset, the Project Moohan XR. The newcomer will debut on October 21 during a Galaxy Event that will be streamed live on the brand’s YouTube channel.
Project Moohan is Samsung’s first XR headset built on Android XR, developed in collaboration with Qualcomm and Google. At its core is the latest Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip, designed specifically for virtual and augmented reality devices with better power efficiency and graphics performance.
Rumors had pointed to a September 29 release, but Samsung has now put that speculation to rest. Early chatter suggests the device’s final name could be Galaxy XR, a label that would fit neatly into the company’s ecosystem.
Project Moohan also signals Samsung’s bid to reclaim momentum in the AR/XR arena after years of relative quiet. With Google as a partner, the intent appears to be a full-fledged alternative to Apple’s Vision Pro—built on the more accessible, open Android XR platform.
