DJI Osmo Action 6 leak: new sensor, optics and variable aperture

A new leak reveals key specs of DJI’s next action camera. Based on the published images and insider chatter, the Osmo Action 6 is poised to deliver not one but three notable upgrades over the Osmo Action 5 Pro: a new CMOS sensor, improved optics, and support for a variable aperture.

The camera had been expected to debut by the end of October. The New Camera even pointed to October 24, but the launch now appears to have been postponed.

Insider Igor Bogdanov shared what is reportedly a first image intended for DJI’s promotional materials. The photo suggests a cleaner, more contemporary design: the black stripe seen on early prototypes in the FCC database is gone, replaced by tidy Action branding and a couple of additional elements nearby. One of them is likely a microphone, while the other might be an auxiliary LED or a sensor—small touches that make the front panel look more purposeful.

Markings on the Osmo Action 6 body indicate a 1/1.1-inch CMOS sensor, a clear step up from the 1/1.3-inch unit in the previous model. A 135° wide field of view is also expected, along with an adjustable aperture from f/2.0 to f/4.0—changes that should offer more control over depth of field and exposure when shooting.

DJI has yet to confirm official specifications. If the leaks are accurate, the Osmo Action 6 could be the brand’s most advanced action camera to date, and on paper this combination of a larger sensor, broader optics, and variable aperture sets a confident tone for the lineup.
