Audio-Technica ATH-ADX7000 unveiled: audiophile open-back headphones

Audio-Technica has unveiled its premium open-back headphones, the ATH-ADX7000, designed for demanding audiophiles. The company promises natural, spacious, and comfortable sound, and the $3,499 price tag is just as striking.

The headphones feature proprietary HXDT drivers with integrated 58 mm transducers, hand-assembled and tuned at the company’s Tokyo factory. Each driver is carefully aligned with the diaphragm, magnetic system, and voice coil, which, according to the maker, delivers cleaner, more balanced, and more natural sound across the entire frequency range.

The driver housings are made of aluminum with a honeycomb perforated grille that improves airflow and reduces acoustic pressure inside the chamber. Thanks to this, the ATH-ADX7000 aim for precise bass control and finely drawn detail without distortion. Despite the open-back design, lows are intended to stay dense and well-defined, mids to sound natural and informative, and the highs to remain airy and transparent—without harshness or fatigue during long listening sessions.

The set includes two pairs of interchangeable earpads: velvet for a more balanced presentation with reduced unwanted resonances, and Alcantara for deeper bass and smoother treble. Customers also receive a hard case and two detachable three-meter cables—a balanced four-pin XLRM connector and a standard 6.3 mm gold-plated plug.

The Audio-Technica ATH-ADX7000 will go on sale in the US and UK on October 31 for $3,499 and £3,000, respectively. Each pair will be hand-built in Japan and comes with an individual laser-etched serial number—another signal that these headphones are aimed at true connoisseurs of sound.
