Samsung appears poised to take one of its boldest steps since the first Galaxy Fold arrived in 2019. According to The Korea Herald, the company plans to unveil its first tri-fold smartphone — the Galaxy Z TriFold — this week at the APEC 2025 summit in Gyeongju, South Korea, running from October 31 to November 1.
The new flagship is framed as an attempt to merge phone and tablet capabilities in one device with three folding sections. Folded, users get a 6.5-inch screen; fully open, a 10-inch display; and there’s an intermediate 8-inch mode that makes the device especially adaptable for work and entertainment.
Early details point to a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, up to 16GB of RAM, and storage options up to 1TB. A 200MP main camera, complemented by ultra-wide and telephoto modules, underscores its flagship ambitions.
The expected price is around $2,800 — roughly $1,000 more than the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Production will reportedly be limited: Samsung is said to be preparing between 50,000 and 200,000 units for select markets, including South Korea, China, and the UAE.
The Galaxy Z TriFold arrives as a response to Huawei’s momentum with its tri-layer Mate XT Ultimate and Mate XTs Ultimate. Unlike those devices, Samsung’s model folds inward, a choice presented as a way to improve structural durability.
Analysts suggest the company is betting that the new form factor can rekindle interest in the Galaxy Z line, which has seen sales slow in recent years. The timing and positioning hint at a calculated push to reset the narrative around foldables.
