Samsung is preparing a major refresh of its flagship foldable lineup. According to South Korean media, the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 may arrive with a battery rated at over 5,000 mAh, renewed S Pen support, and a reworked display with a less visible crease.
While the Galaxy Z Fold 7 proved successful, it kept the same 4,400 mAh cell used across several previous generations. If the reports bear out, the Fold 8 would become the first in the series to deliver a noticeable leap in endurance—a change the lineup has been due for.
Sources say Samsung intends to bring back S Pen support, which was dropped in the last model to achieve a slimmer profile—an omission that frustrated many Fold loyalists. With the Fold 8, the company has reportedly found a way to pair stylus compatibility with a sleek silhouette without compromising structural rigidity. If so, that would finally reconcile two priorities that often pull in opposite directions.
It is also being reported that the new Fold’s screen will look cleaner thanks to a laser drilling approach applied to metal plates, which reduces the display crease. A similar technique is rumored to feature in a future foldable iPhone from Apple, suggesting the method could become a common playbook for premium foldables.
Boosting battery capacity to 5,000 mAh and beyond would mark a meaningful step forward for the Fold line. For context, every model from the Fold 3 through the Fold 7 relied on the same battery, while Galaxy S Ultra flagships have held the 5,000 mAh benchmark for years—a bar the Fold family has yet to match.
If the Fold 8 does arrive with a larger battery and improved accessory support, it could help Samsung solidify its lead in the foldable market, where competition with Huawei and Honor is sharpening.
