With high-priced dual-screen handhelds such as the AYANEO Pocket DS and AYN Thor setting the tone, ANBERNIC drew plenty of attention by teasing an affordable RG DS for under $100. A fresh leak on AliExpress now lays out the hardware and makes clear where the savings come from.
According to the leaked description, the console features two 4-inch IPS displays at 640x480. That resolution is not only modest for the size, it also isn’t an ideal fit for native Nintendo DS scaling; the 2.5x factor can introduce pixel-art distortion.
The device runs on a Rockchip RK3568 with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. This chip is no powerhouse: it doesn’t support more advanced emulators like MelonDS and is effectively limited to the older DraStic, which lacks options such as RetroAchievements. And although marketing images show 3DS games, in practice the handheld will handle only the simplest titles.
Even so, the ANBERNIC RG DS could be a practical pick for retro gaming fans watching their budget. For context, the AYN Thor Lite hovers around $259, while the Retroid Dual Screen Add-on with an OLED panel costs $75 but requires a separate console. Official launch timing and pricing haven’t been announced yet, though expectations remain that retail will indeed land below $100, as the company’s teasers suggested.
