WABetaInfo reports that WhatsApp has begun testing a companion app for Apple Watch. The new tool lets watch owners view messages and media from their chat list and respond straight from the wrist.
Beyond reading threads, users will be able to compose new messages without waiting on a notification, react with emoji, dictate texts by voice, and even record voice messages. In practice, that brings a far richer WhatsApp experience to the watch than before, the kind that makes quick exchanges feel effortless.
There is a caveat: the app still depends on an iPhone. For full functionality, the watch must be connected to a smartphone with WhatsApp installed. That’s expected for a companion app rather than a fully standalone version, and it keeps expectations in check.
Testing is underway via TestFlight for those on the WhatsApp for iOS beta 25.32.10.71. There’s no timeline yet for an App Store rollout to everyone. Still, this looks like a meaningful step toward tighter alignment with Apple’s ecosystem—and for many, enough to shift more of their quick chats to the wrist.
