Audio-Technica ATH-M50x ENSO: a limited all-black tribute to the studio classic

Audio-Technica has introduced a special edition of its celebrated studio headphones, the ATH-M50x ENSO, drawing on traditional Japanese aesthetics. The design takes cues from the ensō—the circle that stands for simplicity, balance, and continuity—and brings back the classic all-black look of the original M50x after a run of splashier limited colors. The return feels like a quiet nod to the line’s studio roots.

Each pair of ATH-M50x ENSO features engraved details on the earcups and headband, echoing the motion of sound waves and brushstrokes reminiscent of Japanese calligraphy. The tuning remains faithful to the original: inside are 45 mm drivers with copper–aluminum alloy voice coils, delivering a powerful, clean presentation with deep, accurate bass. Soft earpads keep comfort and isolation in check, while the cups swivel 90 degrees for single-ear monitoring and fold down for travel—practical touches that matter day to day.

The run is capped at 5,000 units worldwide, each with a unique serial number. In addition, 500 random buyers will find a special postcard in the box, redeemable for an exclusive ENSO accessory set that includes a headphone stand and a branded carry case. It’s a small element of chance that adds a bit of fun to the unboxing.

The package includes a protective pouch, a 6.3 mm adapter, and three detachable cables: a coiled cord stretching from 1.2 to 3 meters, a straight 3-meter option, and a shorter 1.2-meter cable. The limited-edition Audio-Technica ATH-M50x ENSO is available now for $199—a familiar, no-fuss kit for both studio and everyday listening.
