Magic Earth Brings Always-On Speedometer to iOS with CarPlay Boost

Magic Earth has rolled out a new iOS update, introducing a built-in speedometer that works even when navigation isn’t active. This means drivers can now see their GPS-based speed at any time — a feature that could prove handy given that car speedometers often have a slight margin of error due to various factors.

The update also enhances Apple CarPlay integration. In vehicles that support metadata transmission, Magic Earth’s navigation becomes richer and more user-friendly, delivering more detailed information directly on the car’s display.

Despite the added functionality, the app remains committed to its privacy-first approach, continuing to avoid collecting user data. However, it has now switched to a subscription model priced at $0.99 per year. According to the developers, this change is necessary to keep the service ad-free and free from third-party monetization.

New users can test all features during a 30-day free trial. While Magic Earth receives regular updates, the iPhone version already offers more advanced capabilities compared to its Android counterpart.
