MSI has launched a new lighting control tool — Portal X — that runs in the browser and is built to manage the latest generation of ARGB devices. It serves as an alternative to the Mystic Light utility inside MSI Center, but prioritizes simplicity and rapid feature updates.
Portal X supports MSI 800-series motherboards, GeForce RTX 50 graphics cards, and most addressable RGB memory modules. It requires an internet connection and a small local launcher from the Microsoft Store; after that, the interface automatically pulls the latest updates and the list of compatible devices.
Unlike Mystic Light, Portal X doesn’t require a bulky installation — everything runs through Chrome or Edge. Users can adjust colors, brightness, and effect speed, and enable All Sync to coordinate lighting across the motherboard, graphics card, and memory. The portal doesn’t connect to remote accounts, keeping control local and reducing the risk of data leaks.
There are, however, some limits. Portal X can’t control fans or displays on liquid coolers, and devices attached to ARGB headers simply mirror the motherboard’s effects. The software works only when you’re online and can conflict with Mystic Light, offering to take over lighting control entirely.
Early feedback from enthusiasts suggests it still feels unfinished: setup is complex, the interface looks dated, and it doesn’t adapt to the browser window size. MSI Center remains heavy but dependable. Portal X comes across as an intriguing experiment with promise, yet for now it’s closer to a testbed than a full-fledged replacement.
