Steam Frame: Valve’s standalone VR headset nears reveal

New details have surfaced about the imminent release of Valve’s VR headset Steam Frame, previously known by the codename Deckard. Insider SadlyItsBradley reports that the company could officially unveil the device as soon as November 12, with preorders opening one to two weeks after the announcement. A reveal in that time frame would look like a calculated step toward building interest ahead of the market’s busiest season.

According to rumors, Steam Frame will be Valve’s first standalone headset, capable of running without a wired connection to a PC. It’s expected to operate wirelessly in a manner similar to Quest 3 while retaining tight integration with the SteamVR ecosystem. Early leaks suggest Valve is preparing for mass production, with annual output measured in the six-figure range.

There’s still no official confirmation, but a tentative launch is aimed at the 2025 holiday season, a period when high-demand gaming hardware traditionally hits the shelves. In addition, sources say Valve is testing a new Steam controller that will likely slot into the broader Steam Frame ecosystem.

Even so, industry voices advise caution. Similar buzz about an “announcement window” circulated in September and didn’t pan out. Still, considering Valve’s recent activity and the pace of leaks, the signs point to Steam Frame edging close to an official debut—and it may well become the defining VR story of the year.
