Cinemo, long known as a key supplier of media technology for automotive infotainment systems, is stepping beyond the auto industry. The company has announced a new business unit dedicated to building a cloud ecosystem for consumer electronics and enterprise devices. It is the largest strategic expansion in Cinemo’s history.
According to CEO Richard Lesser, the company plans to carry its know-how—accumulated over more than a decade powering multimedia in over 150 million vehicles—into the world of home and office devices. The goal is to eliminate what it calls “media fragmentation,” when devices from different brands can’t operate together without restrictions.
The new unit is developing an open cloud platform for electronics manufacturers, content providers, and users. At its core is a software layer that ensures interoperability across devices of any class and brand. The first supported category will be audio systems, aimed at both consumer and business use.
Even so, automotive remains central. Cinemo will continue advancing personalized infotainment and collaborating with global automakers and major component suppliers. With its own team and leadership, the new unit is intended to broaden the company’s footprint and open doors to new markets.
In effect, Cinemo is positioning itself as a foundational technology platform for the next generation of digital media—from cars to home electronics. The timing feels natural: after years of unifying in-car experiences, tackling the fragmented living room and office looks like the logical next frontier.
