Apple has released iOS 26 for the latest iPhone models, and it hasn’t left owners of older devices on the sidelines. Alongside the new platform, the company rolled out updates for iOS 18, macOS Sonoma, and macOS Sequoia. These point releases arrive irregularly, but they reliably bring meaningful improvements—security patches, bug fixes, and compatibility tweaks. For example, iOS 18 moves to version 18.7 (build 22H20), macOS Sonoma updates to 14.7 (23J21), and Sequoia advances to 15.7 (24G222).
For owners of older iPhone and Mac hardware, that’s welcome news: even without jumping to iOS 26, devices remain protected. Many users deliberately postpone installing a brand-new OS, wary of early glitches or because their models simply aren’t compatible. Thanks to Apple’s policy, those users stay within the ecosystem and continue to receive support.
This is one of Cupertino’s standout strengths. iPhones and Macs are expensive, and the ability to use them safely for years helps justify the outlay and explains their strong resale value. Unsurprisingly, Apple cultivates a particularly loyal audience: it signals that care extends beyond the flagships to older devices that remain relevant long after their debut.
