Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max surpass 1M in China, driven by a true rear display

Xiaomi’s flagship 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max are posting impressive sales on their home market. According to Chinese insider Digital Chat Station, only three late-year flagships have cleared the one‑million activations mark so far—and two of them are Xiaomi’s. Both the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max surpassed that threshold individually, making the 17 Pro line the most successful among end‑of‑year flagship launches in China. In a crowded release window, that’s a standout showing.

The milestone was officially confirmed by Xiaomi Group partner and president Lu Weibing, who thanked users for their support and emphasized the strategic importance of the newcomer for the company. He noted that the Xiaomi 17 series has already become the best‑selling product line in the brand’s history—an uncommon result even for market leaders.

One key reason behind the demand is an unusual yet practical design choice: a full-fledged rear display. Unlike the small auxiliary panels once treated as experiments, the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max use the back screen as a true secondary display. It can show clocks, avatars, or virtual pets; lets users interact with notifications and reminders; and even pin notes or tasks with a single tap. It’s the kind of addition that earns its place quickly.

The extra screen also doubles as a viewfinder for selfies with the main camera, showing a live preview when someone else is holding the phone. Xiaomi has been steadily expanding this feature rather than stopping at launch. In recent months, the company rolled out updates that added conversation translation, a photo booth mode, dynamic photo and video wallpapers, and the ability to capture screenshots from the rear display. Most recently, it introduced stock quote tracking and a video teleprompter mode—enhancements that help turn a curiosity into a daily tool and keep interest in the devices high.
